In April: More Than Just a Game – Our First Event on Role-Playing

Together with Uland Grawe from the project The CrunchFluff, and Mirco Sadrinna from the YouTube channel SteamTinkerer, we will be hosting an evening dedicated to imaginary worlds and real encounters in role-playing games on April 23 starting at 7 p.m., we will host an evening titled More Than a Game exploring imaginary worlds and real encounters in role-playing games. Uland will discuss the creation process of “The CrunchFluff” magazine, a role-playing magazine first realized in 2025 through crowdfunding, which on the one hand traces the “good old” RPG fanzine culture in (Northern) Germany while also broadening the perspective on new developments and formats in this wonderful hobby (more details in the interview at Teilzeithelden. Mirco will moderate the evening and, together with Uland and us (and hopefully you), explore exciting questions such as:

  • Why have people spent decades immersing themselves in imaginary worlds?
  • What happens when people share their stories together?
  • How do scenes, communities, and memories come into being?

The event is explicitly aimed not only at active role-players, but also at fantasy and science fiction readers, creative individuals, those interested in culture, and anyone who is simply curious.

We’re excited and warmly invite you to join us on this journey. As always, please register at veranstaltungen@senseofwonder.online

Aiki Mira reads at Sense of Wonder!

A dream came true: with our second event at Sense of Wonder, we made AIKI MIRA’s first reading in Hamburg a reality. Together with Carcosa publisher Hannes Riffel, Aiki presented their short story collection *Darum kann ich nicht fort von hier* (That’s Why I Can’t Leave Here), read from her latest novel *Denial of Service*, and patiently answered questions from the audience. What a great evening!

We were delighted to see that the new back room was filled to capacity.

We’ll be hosting more exciting events here in the future. Stay tuned!

'The Red Room' is now open: Used SF/fantasy books in a refined atmosphere

Our first event at Sense of Wonder!

On 10 December 2025, with the support of Weltlesebühne, we welcomed the wonderful Karen Nölle to Sense of Wonder. Karen Nölle has translated numerous works by Ursula K. Le Guinl into German, either for the first time or as new translations, and was recently awarded the Kurd Laßwitz Prize for her work. In conversation with Carcosa publisher Hannes Riffel, she spoke about her enduring enthusiasm for this wonderful author, the challenge of translating Le Guin's novels and stories into German in a way that preserves the magic of the originals, and, last but not least, her visit to Ursula K. Le Guin herself. Here are a few impressions from this delightful evening:

We're open!

The Force was strong on our opening day, just in time for this year's Grindelfest. Thanks to the fantastic cosplayers from #StarWarsDiner and many interested customers, we are hopefully embarking on the “Sense of Wonder” adventure.
